True Blood - Stephen Moyer by Guest Blogger: Krizia Bajos
Hello, my name is Krizia. And I'm a virgin blogger.
I have been asked by a twitter member (@TrueBloodFamily) to report my experience at the SAG Foundation event where a True Blood screening (ep. Sparks Fly Out) was presented along with a follow up from one of the stars of the show, Stephen Moyer... Bill Compton if you will. So I take my first bite...
;-)
First off, he's smashing with accents. With that convincing old Southern drawl, one would never suspect he had such a strong British accent.
He started his own theater company when he was only 17 years old and named it "The Reject Society". Great name.
Stephen loves what he does. So much that he teaches what he's learned to children. He insists to them to keep "play" alive during the acting process. That even if something "doesn't work", you can still use that feeling/emotion for another instance. Play with choices.
Before he landed True Blood, Stephen had lost two series, lost a tax rebate from a project in Australia (worth a nice chuck of change), and had his residence burglarized of memories and belongings. So, young grasshopper, whenever you think "it can't get any worse", you may have just hit the jackpot. Stay the course.
He shows appreciation to American Film Crews and how they complete 16-18 hours of work everyday without tire; and even when taking breaks, most are going over the scripts and engorging themselves into the story because of how much they love the show they work for. They show the same fervor for the project as the actors themselves. And that's invigorating. Because of this, he shows the same respect for their work and instead of retiring to his trailer after his scenes, he sticks around. He likes the camaraderie with the crew. He enjoys learning every aspect of the production and watch everyone else. Especially since photography is his passion, he has a keen eye and is observant to everything that has to do with the camera.
At this point, the mediator receives a visual to end the session and thanks Stephen for his time. He graciously declines and says he has time for more questions. Which was a refreshing difference from other events and actors I've encountered.
He jokes on how many dogs are now named Sookie and when he's run into their owners, they beg him to "call" for their dog. Which he then slapped on the Bill voice and slurred "come 'ere Soookie". Such a charmer.
Stephen also dished out some acting tips: When researching a new character, write down everything everyone else says about him/her, and also, what 'you' say about everyone else. You'd be surprised to learn a bit more when seeing the various perspectives.
Someone then asks how he's handling the newfound fame. Stephen responds with explaining how he hasn't done any publicity in 16 years, and that now, contractually, he must. He explains how that wasn't why he got into acting. He wants to stay anonymous with his children and enjoy the outdoors with them, without worrying about what clothes he has on. Or if his knobby knees are going to end up on US Weekly. But he did end with this...
"There's no other gig I'd rather be doing... I'm profoundly happy." "For the first time in my life, I'm not chasing after anything, nothing out there I want. I'm not running away from anything because I'm not scared of anything"
That made me smile. I hope for the same one day.

Ginou Choueiri - Potato Portraits
Ginou Choueiri is a Lebanese artist living in Beirut. Peep these portraits he made on potatoes:
Of the work, Choueiri says:
"I chose the potato to portray human faces because of the many striking parallels. Not only is their skin porous like ours, but their skin texture and color is very similar, and like us, they come in different sizes, shapes and forms. Potatoes grow, live, and then decay, mirroring the ephemeral existence and fragility of our own human nature."

Crosstown Rebel boss Damian Lazarus recently released this (funny) video talking about his debut album, Smoke the Monster Out. Be sure to take a listen to the album as it is one of the more eclectic, unique pieces of work I have heard in some time.

East of Havana
East of Havana is a documentary that came out a couple years back in several different film festivals. Produced by Charlize Theron, the film takes a close look at the underground Hip-Hop culture that is happening in Cuba. Problem is, a lot of these artists do not have worldwide recognition for political reasons (hopefully some of that will change now with Obama). I have not seen the film nor do I have any idea how to see it because it is not available on Netflix or Blockbuster and all the screenings were showed years back. If anyone has any idea how I can grab this on DVD, please let me know.
Here's the trailer:

Jamie Jones - Summertime
The long-awaited Jamie Jones release 'Summertime' was FINALLY liberated today. The Crosstown Rebels release features the melodic WMC BOMB Summertime as its A-Side along with a dub of the track. The B-Side, 'You', is not to be slept on. I've heard this played out and it is a party starting track. Overall, a very solid release by, who I believe to be, is one of the best DJ's in the game at the moment.

Opa Locka Knows How to Wu-Tang
Opa Locka, located in the northern part of Miami-Dade county, apparently knows how to Wu-Dat-Thang. Don't believe me? Here's some rare footage of 305's finest showing the rest of the world how it's done..
I was born and raised in Miami, but I have NO idea where they got the saying 'Wu-Dat Thang'. I must admit, the song is brilliant. Big ups to Joaquin for putting me up on this.

Luciano, Villalobos, Dice DJ On A Mountain
Leave it to techno DJ heavyweights Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, and Loco Dice to do something as weird as having a party on top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps. As you watch the video, be on the look out for the crazy guy who decides to paraglide over the party, much to the crowds delight. I wish this stuff would happen in the US.
Danny MacAskill - Inspired Bicycles
Stunt devil Danny MacAskill has been practicing tricks on his bicycle for over 12 years. He has perfected the unimaginable. In this video, filmed over the course of 3 months in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, Macaskill is seen performing some eye-opening stunts.

Top 3 WMC Parties (IMO)
So here are the Top 3 WMC parties of 2009. There may have been others that were up there, but I could only attend so many.
1. Flying Circus @ Nikki Beach
Year 2 of this party somehow was better than year 1. This time, the party ended at 5am (last year it ended somewhere around midnight I believe). This all-star line-up did not disappoint. Just when you think the music could not get any better, the next DJ would come and blow your mind. Props to SAFE & the Audiofly guys for organizing this treat.
2. Spectral Label Showcase @ Grass
An intimate atmosphere, Dynacord sound, and Matthew Dear ending the night performing all new material as Audion Live. What more can a techno lover ask for? The vibe at this party was indescribable. One of thos 'you just had to be there' type events. Other highlights of the night included Clark Warner throwing down an amazing down-tempo set for the early dinner crowd as they chowed down on what I believe to be some of the best food Miami has to offer. Clark later came correct and played some amazing records that had the crowd buzzing. Props.
3. Danny Howells @ B.E.D.
All Howells, All night. 7 hours of musical magic performed by one of the worlds greatest programmers. Danny took the crowd through musical waves, playing anything from dark techno grooves to masterfully blending feel good house tracks. Not too many DJ's can pull this off. At 5am, management literally had to pull Danny of the decks and the crowd was left wanting more.
Honorable Mention: Get Physical @ Studio K, Sunday School, Viva vs Cadenza @ Space.
And we must also mention the greatest party to never happen: Circo Loco @ Nocturnal. This venue never fails to have the worst staff/management. Take note agents and artists, people HATE coming to this venue.

David Chase and HBO Back Together Again...
David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, is teaming up with HBO again to make a mini-series about the early days of the movie industry, titled "A Ribbon of Dreams." Here is some info taken from the press release:
Entitled A RIBBON OF DREAMS, the miniseries will begin in 1913 and follow two men, one a college-educated mechanical engineer, the other a cowboy with a violent past, who form an unlikely producing partnership and together become pioneers and then powers for a time in motion pictures.

James Clar - The Rat Race
Check out this new series by James Clar of Dubai's Traffic Design Gallery. The idea is to portray how humans are much like competitive rats 'racing' to get to the top. The other guy you see in some of the photos is Rami Farook, the owner of Traffic Design Gallery. James Clar describes it as:
"The Rat Race" is a piece jesting at the social ideal of the rat race, the idea that we are all rats in a competitive race to the top. Technology plays a key role in enhancing each rat but staying on top of technological progress (new software, programming languages, memes, etc) is a job onto itself. What technologies enhance our daily lives or make our work more streamlined? "The Rat Race" is a fusion of rat and technology.
Who survives the rat race?
The rat race."
